A Complete Unknown tells the story of how in January 1961, a 19-year-old Bob Dylan travels from Minnesota to New York with nothing in his pockets, carrying his guitar and seeking out someone who has become his hero, Woody Guthrie.

Woody Guthrie was residing at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in New Jersey, dying from a terminal illness. Dylan meets Pete Seeger at the hospital, becomes a close friend and in the process, becomes the next big thing on the New York folk scene, where paths cross with Joan Baez and Johnny Cash, and then within two or three years and albums later, becomes the property of the whole world.

Timothée Chalamet not only gives an amazing, flawless and believable portrayal of Bob Dylan, he also plays guitar, harmonic and sings all the songs. The film also features exceptional supporting performances from Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, and Monica Barbaro.
